Obituary of Owen Jonathan MacKinnon

It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Owen Jonathan MacKinnon, 35 of Six Mile Brook announce his tragic death on April 11, 2024. Owen passed away while on Vacation in Mexico due to drowning.

Owen was born in New Glasgow, NS on June 4, 1988. Owen graduated from NSCC in 2012 as an Electro Mechanical Technician, soon finding his calling in the installation and maintenance of wind turbines. Owens career matched his adventurous spirit taking him all across North America and earning him dozens of certifications along the way.

Owen was a true outdoorsman, you could always find him 4 wheeling, hunting, and fishing in the mountains, that he enjoyed the most. He also had a deep passion for his 73 Chevy Nova. He loved smoking meat and cooking on any given day whether it was at work, home or with his friends.

Owens greatest pleasure was his family, friends and spending time with them making memories that we will never forget. His love for kids was imminent since he was a big kid at heart himself. Everyone who knew Owen will always remember him by that mischievous grin and unforgettable laugh of his.

Owen is survived by his parents Allan MacKinnon, Six Mile Brook and Darlene (Rushton) MacKinnon (Phil) Sylvester; brother Bradley; sisters Sharmaine MacKinnon (Patrick), New Glasgow; Cavelle MacKinnon (Ross) Central West River; maternal grandmother Margaret (Wright) Rushton, Westville; niece Ronni Langille, nephew Nolan Langille; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is predeceased by paternal grandparents John and Violet (MacKenzie) MacKinnon; maternal grandfather Douglas Rushton; aunts Sheri-Lynn (Rushton) Knoblauch, Marilyn (Rushton) Fanjoy, Jeanette McKinnon and Marlene (MacKinnon) Turner.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday May 1, 2024 in Eagles Funeral Home, Westville from where funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday May 2, 2024. Burial will follow in Gladstone Cemetery, Four Mile Brook. Family flowers only. Any donations may be made to the IWK Hospital for Children.
